The current season of Friday film nights ends with a flamboyant flourish this week with “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. This 1994 movie is about two drag artists and a transgender woman who travel across the Australian desert in their lavender coloured bus, Priscilla. They’re on their way from Sydney to Alice Springs, where they’re performing a drag show.

Tickets are £5 for adults (£2.50 for children). It’s a PG and suitable for 15 years upwards. Doors open at Humshaugh Village Hall at 7pm on Friday March 10th and the film starts at 7.30. Drinks will be available in exchange for a donation to Humshaugh Arts Programme and exotic desserts will be served in the interval for just £1.50 each. Tickets are on sale in the shop.

North East Recorder OrchestraThe North East Recorder Orchestra is performing at Humshaugh Village Hall tomorrow afternoon (Saturday March 4th). You can get your tickets from the shop. The concert begins at 2.30 and, during the interval, tea and cakes will be served. The orchestra performs with a huge range of recorders in all sorts of shapes and sizes, not just the regular descant size that we all remember from our schooldays.

There will also be a photographic exhibition featuring images of local musicians.

Tickets are £5  (£2.50 for children). Tea or coffee and cake costs just £1.50. Tickets can also be bought on the door.

The event has been organised by HAP, the Humshaugh Arts Programme.

The Post Office van was involved in an accident in Acomb on Monday morning February 27th and will be out of action indefinitely. If you need to check before setting off to the Village Hall, the Stocksfield Post Office number is 01661 842110. Early estimates were that it would be several days at least before it’s repaired.

The talk by Liesbeth Langford at The George Hotel on Monday evening February 27th has had to be postponed. It will be rescheduled for later in the year but, in the meantime, you can get a refund if you bought your tickets in advance. Humshaugh Publications will announce the new date as soon as it is fixed.
